After discovering the works of Dick Francis, I quit my government job and went to work in the horse industry. Twenty-five years later, I am combining my love of horses and mysteries by penning the award-winning, equine-oriented mystery series featuring barn manager and amateur sleuth Steve Cline. Published by Poisoned Pen Press, the series has received numerous awards and outstanding reviews in The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Booklist, Kirkus, The Denver Post, and the Chicago Tribune among others.
TRIPLE CROSS, a Kentucky Derby mystery, received the 2007 Best Book of Indiana award and was also a ForeWord Magazine Book-of-the-Year medalist, an Independent Publishers IPPY Award medalist, a BookSense Notable book, a Great Lakes Book Award finalist, and a Kentucky Literary Award nominee.
Yes, he is a standardbred.. I'm a racehorse groom and right now the horses are in NJ at the Meadowlands. I have raced in Indy in the past. Are you familiar with standardbreds?
I checked out your website, and I am upset I missed seeing you at the library :( With classes and homework I don't get out much, lol. I was born with a horse for a soul. I worked horses for years, had my own, and kept my hand in with a variety of horses, stables and people. I have been away from horses for like seven years and want to find the right people locally to maybe work with part time. I would rather have my own horse on my own property, but can't afford it right now. Horses are my life's blood. I went back to school for several reasons, one of which to upgrade and refresh my writing skills. I have been doing that and working on a load of manuscripts and poetry. It takes a lot of discipline and work to write well. We have library days set up for the summer, so I will check out your books. I found Dick Francis ages ago and enjoyed his stories a lot. I usually enjoy any book with a horse in it.
If I had a horse I would be riding up the backroads to campus! Would save a load on gas and be totally fun. I asked one of the profs what the policy was about riding to campus....mmmm...like they aren't sure, and would have to make one up. The worst thing would be someone letting the horse lose from wherever it was tied and I could bring a feed bag like the old days, and I know how to pick up manure.
