Historic Indiana Ghost Walks Tours

real ghost stories based on real research from true believers™

I was settling in for a nice private Ghost Walk last Thursday. I wasn't sure whom to expect but when I saw a nice family, (grandparents, parents and two kids and a visiting relative) I was very relaxed and looking forward to the nice walk.

Things got off to a great start and the grandfather especially was very nice (even though he was skeptic) and we talked quite a bit while walking to our stops. On the way to our 2nd stop he mentioned he used to do business in town and he used to wash the windows for Camilla!!! (Allen/Axelrod). If you been on this walk you know we mention Camilla at several stops and she was such an influential person in town, how could we not?

They were taking pictures and even had one of those Android phone EMF detector apps going. (I used to be very skeptical of them, but then I saw on a techie website from IBM how to program the EMF detector and get data from it - now not sure if its made for EMF data like power/magnetic that occurs from homes/wires/ghosts or just from cell towers, but hey, neat).

First thing happened at the Town hall. The young girl said someone touched her on the head. That was before I even mentioned anything about people getting touched there. At the same time when she got touched the EMF detector measured something.

We went on, and in the cemetery and it was very very dark by then. I only had one, strong flash light, so we kind of stayed close together. I spoke about the lady in the white dress in the south east corner of the cemetery. I was ready to move on and mentioned we will talk about the civil war soldier(s) seen in here next when it started. Crackling noise. First one, then a couple more and in really rapid succession it continued. Afterward one of us described it as it sounded like fireworks or gunshots.

I noticed which direction it came from and pointed my strong flash light at it. It was strong enough to reach diagonal across the cemetery and highlight the top of the tree where we heard a civil war soldier was once seen leaning against. I saw the movement of the branches and them crashing down. It was loud. We were kinda shook.

We continued to walk to the south west corner and after talking about SS Pittman a little we couldn't wait and walked over to the tree where we heard the noise from. We were a little surprised when we only saw 3 or 4 small branches on the ground. They were fresh off the tree for sure - the leaves were very green and the break was fresh. But it was odd that small branches like that would make a sound like that.

Pictures taken the day after. Some of the branches from under the tree.

We moved on and finished our ghost walk just a bit late but everybody seemed to have enjoyed it.

When we went back this morning, Saturday to take pictures, we did see the break on the top of the tree as well as I could see it Thursday night:

We compared the breaks of the branches on the ground, and the one in this picture, and it didn't make sense. We walked around the tree, looked up, and didn't quite get it. It isn't easy to see in these pictures, but this tree is about 50 feet tall and this is on one of the largest/tallest branches that had a piece missing!

Then we realized what had happened. The small branches on the ground were actually just the fallout from a much larger branch that came down, but didn't quite come all the way down. It was wedged on top of one of the other branches. Like an upside down Y. You can see the brake on the top of the Y.

Could have just been a coincidence in nature? Sure it could. Just while we were in the cemetery and getting ready to talk about the soldier that was seen in here? Sure, could be..but....wow... scary. By the way that Y branch that broke off was probably at least 7-8 feet long and probably would have seriously injured anyone standing under the tree. Good thing we have insurance!

Well, it happened again. Less than a month later we are again in the cemetery. And again we hear the sound of breaking wood. This time we were already over at Soldier Pittmans gravemarker and I had mentioned this incident above on the tour and we heard the sound while walking towards it that sounded like one shot fired..or screen door very heavily loudly closed...or one branch starting to break. It was the latter.

While I was talking about Pittman and the other soldier we mention, Jackson, we kept hearing that sound. Then two or three times in a row...we saw a big branch of a tree - the tree right next to the marker to the north east move. And move again...then finally it broke half way off. It is still hanging there I bet, unless gravity got the better of it. I am hoping some of the folks on the tour will send us the pictures (one even might have video of it) or we'll go out today and take daylight pictures again..... what are the ODDS???? We were going to have a Westfield walk on 8/13 but had to cancel it due to the weather (it was the eve of the State Fair stage collapse :-/ so.... well... watch out for trees!
